What Happens Here?
I tell stories, and occasionally do data analysis, all for the overarching purpose of picking the nits and challenging the narratives that sports media and fans churn out, and that you and I are supposed to believe. Each post focuses on a specific memory or current feeling in the sports world that I believe to be incorrect, and functions as a persuasive article against the existence of that train of thought.
Sports media is like all media. They lack incentive to tell the truth, and I fill in their gaps. For all who are tired of the sports media being fueled by Twitter hot takes and opinion on teams and players being dictated by the eye test of a human you’ve never met before, this place is for you.
Posts are guaranteed to come once per week, but usually come more often.
Who Am I?
More accurately, why do I have the right to tell these stories?
My name is Robbie Marriage, and my formal training is as an economist. This professional background means I have the (wholly unearned) confidence to tell you what is right about the sports world. That stereotype about the overconfident economist? Entirely correct.
This is my passion project, because I’ve loved pro sports all my life. Thankfully, my formal training also gives me the expertise to comment on sports matters, as performing and remarking upon my data analysis is the day job. I’ve spent so long dissecting sports data in my free time that I have become an expert.
Why subscribe?
What I am not an expert in is promoting my stuff. I don’t do the social media thing very well, so non-subscribers are likely to miss valuable insights. Subscribers are sure never to miss anything, so if you’re a fan of my work, do subscribe to get a guarantee of every post in your inbox. I promise it’ll be worth your while.
Subscribers also get access to all data I curate for any article I make, at the cost of only a DM or a comment requesting it.

There’s already a burgeoning group of people not content with relying on others’ eye tests. All are welcome, but do know that we don’t make a habit of siding with the majority…
Where to Start?
Here are links to three posts that I believe make the point of what this Substack is designed to do:
My Hottest Take: Cody Kessler was a great NFL QB before injuries ruined his career.
Most Practical Article: My takedown of the NFL’s Passer Rating statistic, and proposal of a new version to replace it.
Post I’m most proud of: Several way tie encompassing the entirety of my serial on the career of perpetually underrated NFL QB Trent Green, in an effort to get him more hype. Here is the first chapter.
